Throwing in some divine magic always spices things up, and start using a few
extra Magic Points to boost spells through defensive magic, maybe target the
toughest fighter with a Befuddle.
Magic is tough for the GM to keep track of, so if you want to add magic to
the monsters' arsenal, making it all up-front casts that affect the players,
then you don't have to worry about it while you're keeping track of attacks
and hit points. Protection and Bladesharp on the monsters can be difficult
to remember. Fireblade is easier to keep track of, because then it becomes
"The big orc with the Fireblade" rather than "The big orc with the scimitar
with Bladesharp 4 on it", you can see which is easier to remember.
