Do not include large sections of a message in your reply. Especially not to say "Yeah, I agree." Those who do will be lynched. 2. Use an appropriate Subject line. RQR: will be prepended to it. 3. Do not engage in a point-by-point analysis or rebuttal of another person's message. It is too confusing for others to follow, qualifies as nit-picking, and it usually leads to flame wars. 4. Hi, I'm new to this list so please bear with me. I have one question only (and I'm sure you all see it once a week); what about RQ4? Will there be one and will it be Glorantha only? /Bosse ------------------------------ From: davidc@cs.uwa.edu.au (David Cake) Date: Thu, 12 Jan 1995 07:30:28 +0800 Subject: Re: RQR: Ockless baddies >Ralf Engels typed, > >>as I was reading this half-week's mail, my mind wandered in strange ways >>and hit upon this question: >> I do possess "Griffin Island", where the baddies in Ockless and >> western surroundings are Orcs (apart from the master-mind and the >> dummy royal family). >> >> Now, who are the baddies in the original, "Griffin Mountain" ? > >And the answer, possibly anticipated by Ralf, is the Lunars -boo,hiss,boo!- >led on the slimy, nasty side by Lunar Agent Halcyon var Enkorth and >Jalakeel/7M Priestess Marusa the Shrew, on the slightly more honest, >martial side by Commander Euryptus the Bold, and on the quite nice, >religious side by Elecora Kindtongue (7M High Priestess). > >It's the same dummy royal family... > Having both Mountain and Island, I find that the interesting question is why do they bother to keep the same names? The chief bad guy is named Halcyon Var Enkorth in both -- and that is ALL they have in common. Bizarre. With the new armour types, has anyone seen/made up any figures? I have both editions as well and I can only think that it was such a good name that they didn't want to change it. Seriously though, it seemed that Island was as much of a straight transplant, minus Gloranthan specifics, as possible. It is unfortunate that this has resulted in a much more black/white goodies vs. baddies situation than before. Halcyon IS a nasty piece of work in Mountain, but evil? Depends on your point-of view. I tend to talk of him as such because my PC's hang out with the Orlanthi. Island tends more towards the D&D style with an easily recognised evil force. On Griffin Island: I believe it was John Quaiffe (sp?) who wrote a scenario in White Dwarf involving a dwarf illusionist. She had a neat method of casting illusionary fireballs - multispelling Ill. Sight, Ill. Sound and _Heat_. Does anyone have a description for the Heat spell? Pretty plaese?
