Or are you complaining about losing the _use_ of the > limb in a fight (in which case see previous two ideas)? > something else? I have found that just saying you need 3x points to lop off the arm rather than two seems to have solved the problem. We've been using that house rule for years. I like the idea of bladesharp and enhance damage being seperate spells... in the sense that bladesharp adds points for penetrating armour (only) and enhance damage is more like a "charge" that doesn't go off unless the weapon touches skin... ------------------------------ From: "Styopa" Date: Wed, 5 Apr 95 22:20:06 CST Subject: Re: Criticals: keep 'em but m... > To knock out someone wearing a helmet with a club head shot, you >need to do armor piercing damage--hence my comment about a Dark >Troll's ability to use a club to knock you out. I might add - speaking from extensive experience on the gridiron - we're all skipping one very important issue here: stunning! I agree with Steve P when he says that knockouts through helmets are very rare, but stunning isn't!! I can remember NUMEROUS times getting my "clock cleaned" by a head shot that I didn't see coming, and it left me in a dream state for anywhere from 10 sec to 10 minutes. No, I wasn't knocked out, but I was definitely impaired by the experience....I imagine taking a head shot from a 240lb fullback at full run is SOMETHING like getting smacked by a great trolls maul... ------------------------------ From: "Styopa" Date: Wed, 5 Apr 95 22:53:20 CST Subject: Re: Head Armor (fwd) I don't think >that a simple club shot from a trollkin to an armored head should result in >a KO, given that most war helms are going to be better optimized for resisting >impact than modern helmets. > Lyle > Nothing personal, Lyle, but I would argue this in the most strenuous of terms - modern helmets are the result of THOUSANDS of hours of design engineering and testing (and field experience). True, given the government's efficiency, this works out to actually about 2 hours work with a pocket calculator, but that aside, this is still a good deal more effort that was put into Ancient/medieval helms...these were the product of a single artisan's experiences and memory - there was little post-combat analysis of equipment and its utility. I would say your example indiviual, wearing a roman or medieval helmet would have been a totally dead man. - -Steve Steve Lieb liebx004@maroon.tc.umn.edu Cologne, MN ....still looking for that killer .sig ------------------------------ End of RQ Rules Digest: V1 #183 ******************************* This is the bottom of the RuneQuest Rules Digest.
