Do not include large sections of a message in your reply. Especially not to add "Yeah, I agree" or "No, I disagree." Or be excoriated. If someone writes something good and you want to say "good show" please do. But don't include the whole message you praise. 2. Use an appropriate Subject line. 3. Learn the art of paraphrasing: Don't just quote and comment on a point-by-point basis. When paraphrasing you demonstrate exactly how well you understand the point someone was trying to make. 4. There is no number 4. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Peter Baker Date: Mon, 19 Jun 1995 20:10:45 -0400 Subject: Demoralize, Spell Visibility I would tend to roleplay Demoralize along the lines that John Hutchinson outlined. I also alter the descriptions given to the demoralised character to give an idea of what is going on (opponents appear stronger than they are etc. - though in John's example it would have been difficult "fighting a troll ZZ Death Lord, a Tusk Rider ZZDL and a TR Preist along with six mounted tusk riders and several more troll zz berserkers"). When a member of a group is demoralised this works well in that other characters don't immediately know why the PC has run, stopped, hid, gone berserk or whatever. His rantings can have quite an effect as well. On visible magic all my players like to go into combat glowing with protective magic and wielding light sabres. They also like to wait in ambush fully spelled up and very much in the dark. I haven't really addressed this in my games but I think the David Dunham's idea of "special effects when triggered" is the best compromise. ============================================================================== Peter Baker - pete@pbaker.demon.co.uk "Nothing is impossible until you agree to do it." ============================================================================ == ------------------------------ From: bjm10@cornell.edu (Bryan Maloney) Date: Tue, 20 Jun 1995 15:43:25 -0400 Subject: Re: Demoralize, Spell Visibility A demoralize was recently used against a player character during an assault he was leading. It was a spell component of an organized counter-attack to his first volley of arrows from horseback. I described to him that it was obvious that he was deficient in tactical ability and completely mis-planned this whole encounter, utterly underestimating his enemy beforehand. His response? He withdrew to a vantage point to formulate a tactical withdrawal that would minimize the losses. By the time he'd gotten a plan, his forces had obliterated the opposition. There are many acts of virtue, but three are the greatest: To engender love where there is hate. To bring understanding where there is ignorance. To really slam some clueless git in grand style. ------------------------------ From: crhutchi@facstaff.wisc.edu (crhutchinson) Date: Thu, 22 Jun 1995 15:05:40 -0500 Subject: [none] index rq-rules-digest get rq-rules-digest v01.n252 get rq-rules-digest v01.n251 get rq-rules-digest v01.n249 get rq-rules-digest v01.n248 get rq-rules-digest v01.n247 get rq-rules-digest v01.n246 get rq-rules-digest v01.n245 get rq-rules-digest v01.n244 get rq-rules-digest v01.n243 get rq-rules-digest v01.n242 get rq-rules-digest v01.n241 get rq-rules-digest v01.n240 get rq-rules-digest v01.n239 get rq-rules-digest v01.n238 ------------------------------ End of RQ Rules Digest: V1 #252 ******************************* This is the bottom of the RuneQuest Rules Digest.
