Or be excoriated. If someone writes something good and you want to say "good show" please do. But don't include the whole message you praise. 2. Use an appropriate Subject line. 3. Learn the art of paraphrasing: Don't just quote and comment on a point-by-point basis. When paraphrasing you demonstrate exactly how well you understand the point someone was trying to make. 4. So what about his temple duties? One character of mine had at least a part answer to that - he was a RL and his allied spirit was a RP. There are only so many "traditional" temple duties that a spirit can do - though there's quite a few nasty new ones ;-) Robert McArthur ------------------------------ From: ryan_moore@wiltel.com Date: Wed, 26 Jul 95 10:12:08 CDT Subject: Thanks Everyone! Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions! Is repsonse to some of the questions: The charecter in question is a Rune-Preist and is not far from a Runelord. The person in question WAS NOT keeping track of thier stored power. I was informed of this by another player recently. If I could have it to do all over I probably would remove Multispell but I can't (won't) just take it away now. The character in question is a RP of Zorak Zoran. The mutlispell tactic a seems very un-Beserker Death God. Any ideas on how to present that to the player. I like the idea of recurring attacks against the party. Thanks for the ideas Ryan Moore ------------------------------ From: ns10005@hermes.cam.ac.uk (Nigel Smith) Date: Thu, 27 Jul 1995 18:49:43 +0000 Subject: Re: Thanks Everyone! Ryan on his naughty, naughty player: >The character in question is a RP of Zorak Zoran. The mutlispell tactic a >seems very un-Beserker Death God. Any ideas on how to present that to the >player. Since you also mention that he is on the verge of Runelordship, keep getting his sponsoring Priest to point out that he'll never get promoted if he keeps wimping out of fights! Make the disdain of other temple members clear. Make him the last choice for the lucrative missions - "Sure, you're successful, but you're not exactly worshipping our Lord by casting those spells. Spread the word and HIT something!" I'm sure others will come up with lots of other 'social' pressures which you can apply, but if all else fails it is up to the great ZZ himself as to whether the Multispell is renewed after use. If he thinks that the spell is preventing his priest from acting appropriately, he won't renew it. Use this as a last resort, though, because the player may take such overt action as evidence of a vendetta, or worse an admission of error on your part :-) Once more, good luck, Nigel ------------------------------ From: tickler@netcom.com (Brian Tickler) Date: Wed, 26 Jul 1995 09:19:24 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Rowdy player... Yes, another response to this cry for help... I find that if you want to stop a player from abusing the rules, you show him/her what is like on the receiving end of the abuse. So here's what you do: :) Attack with a relatively innocuous group of opponents led by a Priest with half a dozen bound spirits and Shield/Countermagic. When your rowdy player starts up his routine, respond by having this Priest and his Allied Spirit cast Multispell 3 on themselves and then follow that up with six castings of Dispel Magic (a few 8's, 6's and 4's). Dispel his: Shield 4, Multispell 3, Protection 4, etc. Add two castings of Demoralize (so he won't be able to cast those offensive spells anymore). If you want to REALLY teach him a lesson, have the Priest be a Thanatar with a Chalana Arroy head on his belt: follow the Dispel Magics up with eight castings of Sleep 1, put his entire party to sleep, then have the Thanatar take his character to some dungeon somewhere to await his head being severed (since he's obviously the only head worth having from the Thanatar's point of view). Or be lenient and just loot his sleeping body...now you've solved the problem of his character having too much stored POW... This will brighten his day immensely. If he complains about how gross it is, tell him he's right and restrict Multispell to the use of non-offensive spells... (Note for those about to flame me for advocating this king of heavy-handed GameMaster abuse of power...I'm just kidding.) - -- Brian T.
