Do not include large sections of a message in your reply. Especially not to add "Yeah, I agree" or "No, I disagree." Or be excoriated. If someone writes something good and you want to say "good show" please do. But don't include the whole message you praise. 2. Use an appropriate Subject line. 3. Learn the art of paraphrasing: Don't just quote and comment on a point-by-point basis. When paraphrasing you demonstrate exactly how well you understand the point someone was trying to make. 4. In effect does the shamam get to cast two spells each combat round.? The Lords of Terror seem to indicate this.. The rules spell out the advantages to this form of combat, but they don’t take into concideration the big dissadvatage to mounted combat. Falling off the horse. Don’t laugh, this was a very real problem in the early years of massed organized combat. I tend to cetch myself falling back to the knights of the round tables style of combat. Yet that isn’t the military era that Runequest takes place. Lokking at many of the pictures and descriptions I place RQ during Iron age or Bronze age for Gloreantha. From history books that I’ve read there was some problems with saddles. They didn’t always help well in keeping the rider from falling off. Imagine the calvery charge of warriors with spear and shield. The impact of that charge is devistaing to the definders. Yet many (40%?) would be pushed off the back of the horse on impact with a target. (Or the set spear vs charge of the suposed target.) Then there is the problem of just getting hit while mounted. It is alittle hard to take a step to the side to absorbe some the knockback force while mounted. The rider has a very good chance of getting knocked off the horse and falling down. (for more damgage from the fall) This is the main reason that charotees were so comman at one time. It was easer to stay in a charotee and fight from it that it was to sit on the back of a anamal, hang on, swing a weapon, and try not to be hit. And the mentality wasn’t always for a mobil combat. Often the charotees would ride up fast to the enemy, the riders would jump out continuing the charge on foot with the charotee drives would pull back and what for the warriors ------------------------------ End of RQ Rules Digest: V2 #185 ******************************* This is the bottom of the RuneQuest Rules Digest.
